Report: | A competetive match played in an excellent spirit. Joel was first to arive and wondered whether he had found the rigt place. He had and despite all his best efforts, he could not overcome a fit and resilient opponent. Shapiro playing at number 2 however was putting his trademark two wall boast and top spin drop shot to good effect. He won 3-1 and this brought on the number 3 and 4 rubbers. Dulwich won both, Nic winning 3-0 (no pun intended) and Dulwich coming up 3-1 victors in the fourth rubber despite some ankle trouble.
This left the top rubber. Great game by Mr Peel who out thought his younger opponent. Olly was 7-0 up and wont thank me for reminding him that he was two pints from victory when Peel struck. Olly then went through that awful phase that every sportsman can acknowledge. He could not play a winning shot and either hit the tin or put he ball half way up the front wall. Result - he lost 2-3, though Dulwich won the match 3-2.
A beer or two was enjoyed thereafter. This has been a long summer season and I get the impression everyone is looking forward to a short break before the serious stuff in winter. |
