Report

Report:Another defeat, the 3rd in a row for Bromley, surely means that mid table mediocrity is the best we can hope for this season.

It was a tough night all round for the Bromley team, particularly with Graham Lilley losing his way and getting stuck in the snow. And that was on court!! No seriously they weren't that cold - but I was glad not to be playing on them. But Graham did lose his way in his match against Geoff, and after winning the second game easily (in Geoff's words) to make it one all, he then lost the next two just as easily ( my words after looking at the score).

Didn't see any of Alastair's game either, and he did not offer much in the way of comment about it, so I won't either.

Graham Edwards at least had a bit of a scrap with Rob with the cold conditions suiting his style somewhat. He nicked the first game 10-9, but continually got caught out by Rob's boasts in the next two to go 2-1 down. The fourth was a very tight affair and definitely could have gone either way with both players having game ball. Rob took it in the end, and looked pretty relieved to do so, not really looking as if he fancied a fifth.

Tony Davies in the meantime (sporting some natty legwear - well on one leg anyway) was showing his usual appetite for a bit of competitive squash against the vastly experienced Ian. Tony won the first two games well enough but the third was nothing like as comfortable. Ian battled hard and Tony needed to be at his best to take the final game and run out a 3-0 winner.

Last on was Neil and Cathy, and if Tony was in any way comfortable in his game then Neil certainly wasn't in this one. Although Neil started well enough, Cathy was soon getting into her game and beginning to retrieve almost everything, even Neil's nick shots in some cases. The first two games were close but both went to Neil. The next two were a different story with Neil cramping up and barely able to move ( does he ever I hear). Cathy won them for the loss of two points and the Beckenham supporters were by now roaring her on. Drastic situations call for drastic measures and we were then treated to the sight of Alastair the masseuse giving Neil a right good rub down!! Well I think that was what he was doing although I couldn't see his other hand!! Whatever he was doing however obviously worked because somehow Neil was able to go back on court and stand up long enough to win the fifth 10-8 for a brave win.

So a good win for Beckenham who are very much in the promotion hunt and good luck to them for the rest of the season
