Report: | Last game of a very disappointing season for Bromley which started brightly enough only losing 2 matches in the first half, but finished dreadfully only winning 1 match in the second half.
This match itself was not exactly memorable. Main talking point seemed to be Steve who went 2-0 up and was 6-2 up in the third against Karl when he felt that a marking decision went against him. When I say talking point I mean Steve wanted to talk about it and talk and....but he was driving so we let him.
My game with Chris could have been over a lot quicker as he went 2-0 up and then 8-2 up in the third. I then managed to find a bit of energy from somewhere, a commodity singularly lacking in my games of late, and hauled it back to win 10-8. But that was my lot succumbing pretty feebly in the fourth.
Mark rediscovered some of his form of old and squeezed Graham out of the game to win 3-0 playing some great cross court volleys as well as his trademark wall-clinging short game.
Mr Leffen breezed on court and won the first game easily enough and obviously thought it was going to a bit of a stroll. Wrong again. Nick started chasing down Alan's shots and won the second. Alan then took a smack on the head from Nick's racket which woke him up and he went on to take the next two games to win.
Neil and Mike went on last, although the tie had already been decided in the host's favour. Neil started very impressively and won the first two games. In particular he looked good in the second game and with apologies to Mike I wasn't the only one who headed for the dressing room at this stage assuming a 3-0 Neil win. But something happened and Mike won the third but then much I am sure to his disappointment he had to retire injured with a dodgy ankle.
So a much needed win for Wildernesse, followed by some decent post match hospitality at The Crown, and then the long drive home accompanied by that talking point!! |
