Report: | PREVIEW: Actually the away fixture for Knole - the king-makers (or will it be king-breakers?). Knole travel to the Chislehurst environs via Dartford and Eltham, Acacia Hall and Balfour Beatty, knowing that OEs require at least 4 wins and at worst a 2-3 loss in the fifth rubber to ensure promotion.
For the fourth match in row, Knole's opponents have declined to use the WSF's primary scoring system - pleading 'Spanish customs' and ignorance of the rule change.
The usual run of injuries mean that KP can not field quite the giant-killing side that they would have wished. Young Peter has delayed his return to Aberdeen Uni. to try to gain revenge over the wily Bob; Jerry's undefeated run since his return from a skiing accident means that second string is looking like a possible win against the head for Knole; Mark will hope that his classic cuts will stun the stamina out of a rejuvenated and slimmed-down Mehmet. Mike, demoted to 4 and relieved by his Captain's wife of babysitting duties, may surprise. And only captain John (standing in for Gary's knee)can expect his usual drubbing. A banker 3 points at 5 for OE, but will his motivating presence on the team bus provide the thorn in OE's flank?
3-2 to OEs at Knole - odds on the same scoreline this time. One thing is certain - Knole will still be fourth and there may be tears before bedtime in the home dressing room.
RESULT:John got it right, a few tears in the dressing room but we could not have done anything more than win, our hope of a weak Knole Park side were dashed as they had better strength than our last encounter.
Peter got his revenge over Bob. Justyn, Steve and Mehmet continued their winning ways. Tim never got going against a strong Mike.
16 points but 19 were needed, a great season but a strong Wildernesse and a Waterfront full of ringers was too much. |
