Report: | This week saw a welcome return to winning ways for the Knole team. Fredericks were the visitors and, although they proved stiff opposition, they were eventually beaten 4-1 by a more resilient Knole side. A memorable game saw Chris Morgan at 5 recover from 1-2 and 3-7 down to beat Pete Fraser 3-2. Chris Sayer at 1 held off Matt Partridge in a first game slugfest and eventually won comfortably. The usual spate of errors by Mark (win-em or tin-em) Fleming meant a middle order hiccough at 4 against David Knight. And PJ Rutherford, severely tested at 2 by Dave Partridge in terms of skill and physical dominance, went 0-2 down.
Luckily, Jerry Staffurth, recovered from his flu the week before, was able to see off Paul Barnard at 3 on the other court. So by the time PJ summoned up his vast experience to wear down his much younger opponent and the marker (his own non-playing captain Dave Wallis) - winning the last three games 9-6, 9-1, 9-1 - the match had already been won.
John Creek (Knole's non-playing captain) enjoyed the rest - another week to get over the trauma of Beckenham!
