Its always a pleasure to entertain Stuart Gotts and his troops from Dartford and last night was the same.
Its halcyon days at Dulwich with a very strong set of players resulting in 4 solid and competitive teams. The 4th team is now graced with Duncan Marlow playing at 1 and he and Stuart Gotts put on a magnifcent display of stamina and gutsy squash. Their game would have graced any club and it will be hard to see a better game at Dulwich this season. With the players complementing each others styles and both playing at the tops of their games this turned into a compelling marathon. By the time they had finished after 1 hr 45 minutes 2 1/2 matches had taken place on the other court.
At 1 all for ten minutes in the first game the match had 3-2 wtittem all over it. And so it was. My prediction was wrong in that I said it would be 10-9 in the 5th. As it happened Duncan won through in courageous fashion 10-8 in the fifth. What a great game of squash. Well done to both Stuart and Duncan who had the packed galleries banging the glass in appreciation. Top effort.
The other Dulwich boys faced strong opposition but were generally too good on the night for the other Dartford chaps. The food as ever would have graced a Masterchef final. Cooking doesn't get better than this.
