Report: | Dartford again! - Knole Park visited Dartford (at Acacia Hall) for the third and mercifully last time.
Stewart Gotts's side provided stiffer opposition than was comfortable for a first post Christmas run out.
PJ Rutherford at 2 lost the first game to Jamie Robinson and is beginning to show signs of strain from having to hold the team together for so long. He recovered well to beat the youngster 3-1, but needs to tighten up his game if he is to continue his comeback into the top flight.
Chris Morgan at 5 found the going too hot and went down 3-0 to Andy Holpin in no time at all.
Highlight of the evening was another nailbiter from Gary Mitchell at 4. A new recruit to Dartford, Mark Banfield, gave him a scare by racing to a 2-0 lead, without putting a foot wrong. But Gary, shaking his head in disbelief, dug in and Mark's lack of mental match fitness started to show. Mark's faultless touch from the first two games became sporadic and he started to make frequent errors. At 8-8 in the fourth a brave (or foolhardy?) call of 'one' from Mark completed the momentum shift and, when he called 'one' again in the fifth it was like a white flag.
A very close 'let' which might have been a stroke to Mark left the marker worried about the final result, especially when Gary took the next point and the rubber.
Jerry Staffurth, returning at 3 for Knole, looked far the steadier against Steve Robinson and repeated his 3-1 win of the first half.
And to finish off the 4-1 win for Knole, Chris Sayer again overpowered Stewart Gotts 3-0 at 1. Chris is looking unbeatable at this level and may have to wait for Div 2 before he gets a serious challenge.
A clear win for Knole in the end, although if the league is close come March the Gary Mitchell - Mark Banfield result may have to be scrutinised by the referee's committee.
