Report: | Played on the Old Dunstonians courts, a weakened home team, made even weaker by a last minute drop out, was always going to have a tough time against the guile of the Bromley old boys.
With one court virtually under water the teams set about squeezing the 4 matches on the other court. Paul raced into a 2-0 lead, but Richard, in only his second Priory match, made use of the 24 years age difference taking the 3rd only for Paul to close out a tight 4th. Mark and Dave looked like going the distance until Dave called "set 1" at 8-8 with the lure of the bar too much for him, and Mark completed a return to form with a 3-0 win. Kevin also recorded a comfortable win against luckless Malcolm, and with no number 5s to play we had made up enough time for the no 1s to finish off the evening. An entertaining game saw young Luke unlucky not to take the 2nd, but Ron's lobs and 30 years more experience saw him through to complete a convincing win for Bromley.
And so we set off to find Dave propping up the bar and all enjoy a nice chilli!
Thanks, Park Langley |
