Report: | Park Langley were handicapped from the start having lost their nos 1 & 2 to a higher team and arriving with a team of 4 players. Malcolm had the further blow of facing Tommy who was in good form and generally hit the ball well out of reach. However, Bromley realised that the opposition was serious when Richard showed a combination of racket skill, power and strategy that eventually overcame Mark's graft and determination to win 3-1. Things were even more serious when Anthony outplayed Brian for two and a half games and seemed to be cruising to victory. At 2-7 down in the 3rd Brian lifted his game, hit tighter shots and moved around the court faster as Anthony began to wilt. As Brian's confidence returned the last two games were almost a formality. With the contest won, Paul took on Chris who did his best to remove what little plaster remains on the front wall of court 2. Not many people can hit the ball that hard but Paul confronted power with greater accuracy and Chris had to work hard to stay in touch. But Paul came through in straight games. With all matches played in great spirit, pancakes as dessert and catching up with club news we all enjoyed this Shrove Tuesday fixture. |
