Report: | After last weeks drubbing we were looking to get our first team win or at least our first individual match win. Oh dear!
On first were the number 2’s – Ian & Josh. As Josh has only recently been potty trained, I was expecting the more mature and court savvy Ian to win this one comfortably. Oh dear. Josh not only had a range of winning shots, but was quick around court and was also more court savvy than our Ian. Ian did put up more resistance in the third game, but he eventually succumbed and lost 3-0.
On the other court were the number 3’s – Steve & Tony. Didn’t see any of this as I was marking the whipping of Ian, but Tony won 3-0 although the second game looked like it was tight at 10/9.
Having seen Ian being given the run around I was expecting to be given similar treatment by Shaun who was slightly older than Josh and who was now using the big boys toilet.
The first game was nip and tuck up to about 5-5 when Shaun hit a series of good shots to take it 9-5. After losing the second game 9-1 I was desperate just give a decent performance in the third and was slightly unlucky to loose it 10-9.
The number 5’s - Phil & Lee were on the other court and were at 2-2 in games when I started to watch. Seeing how pristine Phil’s shirt looked compared to Lee’s, I was confident that Phil would at least give us our first individual win of the season. Oh dear. Phil went 7-0 in the space of about 30 seconds. He did muster a mini revival but managed to snatch defeat from the hands of victory and lost the match 3-2.
So to the final rubber and still looking for our first individual win the of season. Surely James would beat a slightly heavy and sluggish looking Nanu. Oh dear. At 2-0 down in games and at 0-8 down in the third it looked like it was all over for James. However, somehow James managed to dig in and remarkably won the third game 10-8. The momentum was now with James and his team mates were expectant. Oh dear. It all went terrible wrong as James blamed his sore buttock muscles for his inability to move around the court and lost the match 3-1. I was too embarrassed to ask how James had come to aggravate his buttock muscles, but I suggest that he refrains from his sordid deviant sexual practices if he wants to improve his squash.
Food and banter was very sociable although we were missing Josh as he had to be home by 9pm for his bedtime story.
Never mind Ian there’s always next week.
