Report: | This is difficult match report as by the time I had finished my match with Les and showered the other matches were almost all over. Luckily there were sound effects to go by. According to these, Ron and Chris had put their squash rackets aside in favour of all-in wrestling. Ron won by 3 falls to nil. Paul and Richard were hardly less noisy, most shouts accompanying a frustrated tinned shot (Richard), often alternating with lunge grunts that Monica Seles would have been proud of (Paul). By comparison Mark and Anthony played under Trappist rules - Anthony always a quiet gentleman on court, and brother Mark ruthlessly and silently efficient on the night. The last match would have been a soft-sounding epilogue were it not for the cannon-balls coming from Tommy. Poor Malcolm was taken by surprise as the ammunition flew about him and by the time he started to come to grips with the power-play the battle was nearly over. So what of Les and Peter? Anyone's match until late in the 5th game. Peter 7-4 ahead had the momentum but two unforced errors were rewarded by a run of shots of excellent length and a final tight boast from Les that won PL5 their 3 points.
PS The Trappist rules were in tatters when the winning team-turned-washing-up crew found the horrendous mess in the kitchen. |
