| Report: | Tim and Peter were first in action and Tim was immediately in control. However, Peter fought back gamely as Tim's shots went more wayward until Peter just nicked the 3rd. Then roles were reversed as Tim recovered his touch and took the match. Meanwhile Mark and Michael were hitting the skin off the ball and a casual glance over the balcony suggested a very even match. Mark was marginally more consistent though, and that made the difference. Andrew ("I hate playing ladies") was just too much of a handful for Jackie whose boasts had to be nick-sure to stop Andrew picking out a drop or straight drive. He was the complete gentleman! Brian and Toby moved the ball around nicely and Toby's retrievals were remarkable. But Brian was on song and his low drives inevitably dominated the match.
Finally, the match in the bag, Peter looked as if he would take the remaining points, easily winning the first game with Tony. Not so: Tony came back with tricky serves and efficiently cut some nice drop-shots as Peter tried to recover consistency. But Tony held on, moved well when it mattered, and won a well-deserved victory.
A good start for the new BLTSC 3rd team, but more hard work to follow. |
