Report: | A very tired-looking Knole Park team just managed to scrape themselves off the bench to complete the double over Sydenham. A complete contrast to the away game - heaters working for a start (perhaps too well, as the younger fitter Sydenham players got off to a quick start in the heat). Joe smashed Chris off the court before Chris had even had time to get his track-suit off; and John Rowe mesmerised a despondent Mike into a lacklustre 1-2 deficit before he knew what had hit him.
However things looked up after the thermostats kicked in. Mike came back from the dead to steal it - with the help of a few lucky shots and a strict marker (overstrict, who knows?). Chris S-B (in spite of carrying 3 months' rust) and Adam were both ruthlessly efficient in their 3-0 wins. So the scores were level at 2-2.
A topsy-turvy 5-setter between Dan and Jolly John settled the matter - fittingly the home captain taking the honours - to keep alive Knole's (extremely) faint promotion hopes. [Too many earlier slip-ups on banana skins - Ed]. |
