Report: | Bromley LT turned out the old boys team, whilst PL 4 had a team of whippersnappers.
First up, Terry and Mike. These 2 have met numerous times before, in matches famous for the longevity of the rallies and lack of any short game. This time they had a monster 5 shot rally in one game to confound the audience. Mike took umbrage at one of Terry's mis-hit winners and didn't concentrate after that so lost unusually in 4 ( Mike, the whole audience, especially the PL players, agreed the ball was in ).
Next on, Paul and Andy. I didn't see any of this but according to Andy afterwards, Paul couldn't cope when he upped the pace. According to Paul, he played crap.
So 1-1
Next: Ray and Mark. I really didn't see any of this so no idea, except Mark won.
Keith and Darren. Darren knackered after the first, and then more after the second. But Keith went on his holidays at this point, Darren played a very nice range of winning shots for 2 games to even it up. As you'd hope, a hard 5th ensued with both players not giving in, but ultimately Darren's heart failure cost him the last 2 points.( Note to editor, Keith is 1000 years older than Darren )
so 2-2 on the night.
Ron and Gerald. Both players complaining of injuries. Both players unwilling to concede a shot, let alone a point or the match. Lots of very good, tight squash, good variety of shot and pace. But ultimately Ron had the better of more rallies, it could have gone the other way so easily.
3-2 to Bromley LT old boys. Mike and Mark had to leave, leaving just 8 to eat the food and get merry. |
