Report

Report:The away team (Wildernesse) were at the courts practising for an hour before the match - a sign of how serious this local derby has become for one team.

Knole's best hope, therefore, was that the visitors would be tired by the time the real match started.

Mark started brilliantly, hitting an unusually large number of outrageous and unreturnable shots against a bemused James. Midway through the second game, reality kicked in and James's youth, fitness, skill, tenacity and lots of other stuff took control from Mark's aching body. Mark tried adjusting his leg and arm bandages, but to no avail.

Tim played his usual array of drives and chased down well for three games, without his accustomed measure of success. His early 'let' calls only briefly succeeded in stemming the flow by upsetting the rhythm of Peter and the marker.

So Knole 0-2 down early in the evening. Chris S-B powered his way past Gary B, and by being more consistent than in recent weeks he was able to counter Gary's tenacity and enthusiasm. A very good result against a 2012 undefeated runner. Gary's promotion to 3 this season will be a stiff test for him.

New boy Niall was expected to be the Knole banker. Mike had other ideas and fought to a 2-0 lead, with a fair spattering of unforced errors from Niall. In spite of a strong comeback by Niall to level at 2-2, Mike proved the stronger - no doubt helped by his knowledge of Niall's game from their friendly encounters recently.

Knole's Gary M started brightly against Karl, not allowing Karl to settle into his efficient stride. A few close Hi/Hos brought Gary the 1st game, against the run of play - and nearly brought him the second in the same way. But once Karl had restored parity at 1-1, Gary ran out of steam and was steamrollered in short time.

So a good points haul for Wildernesse puts them well on the way to becoming the Knole Park Wildernesse and Sevenoaks 1st Team. And a visit to their local pub, The Anchor, afterwards will have made them feel even more at home.

Away Report

Away Report: couldnt have done a better report myself!!
Shame that all bar one of the home team (and Mr Creek of course)chose not to avail themselves of Barrys hospitality at the Anchor despite it being their first potentail foray into his esteemed establishment. Most teams seem to view the social and nosh an intrinsic part of the match experience i am pleased to say ...
