Report

Report:Given that Bexley Park were missing their number 1 & 2 when we beat them 5-0 first time around, I thought that were in danger of losing our unbeaten run especially as we have now lost our number one, Michel. Plus Mike “The Sausage Eater” pulled out on the day so I had to call on super sub, Nick Barnes.

Nick v Fraser – Given Nick won his only previous appearance for the team, there were big expectations that he was going to repeat this feat again. Could Nick cope with the pressure? In a word, no. Nick had an obsession with playing the ball off the back wall when playing onto the front would have been easier. Fraser duly obliged by lobbing the ball back to Nick for him to “back wall” it again and again. At one point I thought Nick had confused the back wall with the front. 3-0 Fraser.

Dan v Dan. Supportive comments from the gallery to the players got a bit confusing as both players thought it was directed at them. Bexley Dan looked like he was going to be unbeatable in the warm up, but when put under pressure in the match the wheels came off. A good match to watch. 3-1 to Bromley Dan.

James v Dean. Didn’t see any of this match but heard a great deal whilst I was on the next court. From Dean’s howling I guessed James was winning. 3-1 James.

Keeley v Tobyn. Refresh from her victory in the Scottish Open Mixed Doubles Keeley was brought back down to earth when she lost the first game to Tobyn who was quicker around the court. After having a bite of my banana (not a euphemism), normal service was resumed and Keeley won 3-1.

Me v Matt. Refresh from my victory in the Scottish Open Over 35s Doubles, I won the first game but then seemed to lose the plot as Matt got more into the game. Although I got a lead in most games Matt pulled it back each time. It was the same in the fifth game, and at 8-2 up I got a stitch and Matt clawed it back to 8-6. Unusually for me I didn’t panic and managed to win the match 3-2.

Mike “The Sausage Eater” would have been proud of Bexley Dan. He managed to consume seven sausages and two hefty portions of mash – Don’t worry Mike, I’ve saved you some sausages for our next home match in two weeks’ time!
