Report: | A great night of squash as a great season comes to an end, PL knowing that 16pts would seal the title and some added spice knowing that Knole Park were the only side to beat us all season (legitimately).
First on was Rob and David. I didn't see a single shot of this due to playing but David is a strong opponent for anyone and although Rob got a game this time around, it seems the experience won out and closed up a 3-1 win for David and KP.
Court 2 Rich vs Mike
With the skipper tentatively picking up (say it quietly) a little bit of relative form in the last couple of weeks, it started well, racing in to a 2-0 lead although Mike whipping in some tasty trickle boasts to keep Rich on his toes. Sure enough form prevailed, Mike picking up the pace and Rich losing concentration after a couple of dodgy calls (nothing new there) bringing it level. A tight 5th ensued, both players putting everything in to it before Rich eventually won it with a couple of tight shots on the forehand in the tie break. Great game and well played to Mike.
Next on Nilen vs Niall
Again didn't see a lot of this due to playing but Niall is a consistent player so Nilen must've played well to wrap it up in seemingly comfortable style.
Toby vs Peter
As I was marking I didn't see too much but in the blink of an eye Toby was 1-0 up... I genuinely thought he'd come off to change rackets at this point! Peter rallied in the second, moving 7-0 up before Toby came back to win the 2nd and then 3rd comfortably. 3-0 and 3-1 on the night, 16pts secured with Tom vs James in the first game on the other court...
Tom v James
A marathon match between 2 players with very similiar styles. Lots of long rallies varying length, pace and skill, this game toed and froed each way before James' legs finally gave up and Tom secured a win in 5 for himself but more importantly an 18pt haul for PL and thus the title.
Some very good squash and enjoyable evenings throughout the season, now just to sort the issue of 3 PL teams in Div 2...
