| Report: | After promising that we would avenge our opening day defeat against OE, I find myself with egg on my face. A strong and determined OE team came to Dulwich and dished out a good old fashioned a*se spanking. There were some bright moments for us thou. Jack Burgess at 2 looked fitter then of late and showed signs of regaining his form, even thou he lost in 4 games against Memhet there were some positives he could take away. Steve Hall at 4 had a close game with Jeremy. Having narrowly lost the 1st and steamrollering the 2nd Steve gave away a handy lead in the 3rd to lose 9/7. That appeared to knock his confidence and Jeremy was able to take the 4th, but not without a fight.Jon-Marc and Steve Aherne tried hard in the oppressive heat. But both went down in 3 against Keith and Steve respectively.Now for the highlight. Richard will not like me mentioning this but,I BEAT HIM!! I could use words like, "Masterly display" , "Didn't know if he was coming or going" and "Beaten all ends up" but that would be unfair to my opponant. To be honest I almost gave away a 2 game lead with Richard fighting back to level at 2-2. However, I think the energy he expended took it's toll and, being the whiley old vet that I am, not to mention short,fat and bald, I was able to put that ball in the corners and sap the last of Richard's energy. This enabled me to take the 5th and I was most releaved to walk of the winner.
A collective effort by the Burgess family with regard to the food. Very nice spag/bol. Nice night, apart from the result. |
