Report: | Dulwich got back to winning ways with a hard fought and close victory over DL. With three of our four wins going to five sets in could have been oh so different but for once we came out on top. I started proceedings against John and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. However, John came back strong in the 3rd and 4th with some fine squash. I think the effort took it's toll on John and I was able to take the 5th but John pushed me all the way.
Young Jack took on Gerkon (sure I've spelt that wrong) at No 2. This was the classic youth v vet confrontation. Both gave their all in the heat and played some excellent squash. Youth was able to conquer the vet on this occasion but both players deserve praise for a very entertaining game.
Steve A continued his impressive debut season for us with a straight sets win over Paul at No 5. This was not as easy as it looked. Paul is coming back to the game after a lay off and is still finding his touch and match fitness. He showed signs of what he can do and will be a force to reckon with in the future. However, Steve was too strong and had the better variety of shots which enabled him to pick up the win.
With the match won it would have been easy for Steve H at No4 to take it easy in his game. Not so. Steve has become our most consistant player and showed again why. After losing the 1st set he came back strong against Mr Rolle to take the 2nd. Steve then lost the 3rd easily and looked down and out in the 4th when behind at 0-5. However Steve took the set with 9 pts in a row to take the game to a 5th. In that one Mr Rolle served 4 times for the match but was unable to convert. Steve's determination and resolve forced him back into the game and he eventually took it 10-8. Great comeback!.
Jon-Marc gave a valiet effort at No 1 against Greg but was unable to overcome a very good player.
Jon-Marc made up for his lose by providing us with a wonderful meal afterwards. I didn't know he was such a culinary geniuse. DL were very gracious in defeat and will be always welcome at Dulwich. |
